What To Do When A Sewing Project Goes Wrong No matter how long you have been sewing for, it happens to all of us. An error of judgement, a mistake when measuring, pieces cut incorrectly, an omnivorous sewing machine. A sewing project that goes wrong. I have made…

How to Make a Picnic Place Mat When the weather is nice, my boys and I love to eat outside. Sometimes we like to go to a park, or to the beach. Sometimes we just sit at our picnic table in the back garden. A little problem with…

The Atom Superhero Style DIY Costume I no longer feel like Superman’s mum. You know the part where his mum makes his suit? As far as I am aware, she only does it the once. It is like I am mum to umpteen superheroes. Including Booster Gold (I…

Adding Fibres to Handmade Felt I love making felt! It is easy to do, you can get pleasing results easily and it’s a lovely, tactile thing to work with. Making felt doesn’t require expensive speciallist equipment. Some wool rovings, a bamboo mat (like the table mats people had in the 80s), soap…

How to Make a Bunting Cushion As much as I love bunting, there is a limit to how much of it you can have strung up about the place. A bunting cushion is a nice, easy way of adding the same cheeriness but without tying yourself up in…

How to Fix a Jammed Sewing Machine It happens from time to time. You’re sewing away happily, perhaps hoping to get a project finished before your baby wakes up, or before you have to pick the kids up from school, or before midnight because you need to sleep! You…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

February is the doorway between winter and spring February is the doorway between winter and spring 💚🤍🌱❄️

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
