Often there is a right way to do things.

Unfortunately the right way is often also fiddly and awkward.

But the official way might not be the only way!

So if it's difficult, fiddly and it's making you cross, just do it your way 💖

Patrick and Esme are not going to come to your house to make sure that you sew a zip in correctly.

Nobody is going to stop you in the street to check your armpits to see whether you sewed the sleeves in the official way or the easy way.

It might be easier for you to do things in a different order.

You get to decide, and nobody is going to check 💖🌸🌸

There is often more than one way to do things 💖

For a long time I thought I was a crocheter and not a knitter. I knew how to knit but I never got the hang of it and I was the slowest knitter in the world. Yes I let go of the needles! 😂

Then one day, I was on a bus in Oslo and I saw a woman knitting. She was knitting something red, might have been mittens or maybe socks, and she was knitting in a completely different way!

I had a quick Google and found that actually, yes, Norwegian people usually knit in a different way to English. So I found out how and tried it out.

It turned out that I am a knitter after all, only of socks and small things, and I'm still slow, but I can actually knit this way 💖🧶

So if you're trying to do something and it's proving to be difficult, there might be another way.

Creative people are resourceful, so if you have an idea, it's probably worth trying. Or there's always Google 💖🌸💖🌸

Maybe you've lost interest in the thing you are making.

Perhaps there is a shiny new project waiting.

Or it's not turning out as well as you'd hoped.

Or you don't like it

Or you don't like the materials you're using.

Just leave it. Don't feel bad, and don't tell anyone if you don't want to. Making things is supposed to be fun. If it's not fun, you don't have to do it.

Nothing's been wasted. Ideas are worth trying. You probably got some enjoyment from it. You might have learnt something.

The unfinished projects haven't been finished yet. You can come back to them another time

It is good for us to make stuff.

🌸 Making keeps both hands and minds busy. It gives our brains a break from worrying about stressful things in our own lives, and in the world.

🌸 It gives a sense of accomplishment

🌸 It makes us happy 😊

🌸 It can give us a feeling of being connected, with other people who like to make things, with the people who taught us how to knit, or use a sewing machine, or to paint a tree that actually looks like a tree and not like a giant's foot, and with people through the ages who have made stuff.

All of this means that we can deal with the tedious bits of life better, more easily and happier.

So it's not selfish or a waste of time to take 15 minutes or half an hour or whatver to knit the socks, sew the coat or splash paint about 😘
