    DIY Mini Christmas Embroidery Hoops

November 19, 2021June 24, 2025 Blog, Gentle Projects, Nature and Seasons

One of my favourite pre Christmas jobs is decorating the Christmas tree. Anybody looking at my tree might think it’s a bit of a mess! It’s not colour coordinated and nothing matches. It looks nothing like a tree you might see in a shop. A lot of our…

More than any other season, I’ve always loved the autumn. I can remember when I was a little girl, probably about 7 or so, my teacher asked us to write about which was a favourite season and why. I knew mine was the autumn! But being a little…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Creative invitations for February, on the theme of Creative invitations for February, on the theme of thresholds:

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

February is the doorway between winter and spring February is the doorway between winter and spring 💚🤍🌱❄️

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
