DIY Bunting Card Having concentrated mostly on sewing for the last few years, I’ve decided with one thing and another to change direction a little bit and include more of other crafts. This is actually what I did when I started Tea and a Sewing Machine. It was…

Dress Refashion: Adjusting Fit, Length and Style Last summer I bought this dress. The print was pretty, the fabric draped nicely and I liked the print. Although I don’t do yellow (I’m not Josie Jump!), the flowers made me think of harvest time. It was about the time…

  • The Sewing Journal! Bunting or Cherry Blossom?

    May 16, 2019June 24, 2025 Blog

The Sewing Journal! Bunting or Cherry Blossom? Who doesn’t love a pretty notebook? I’m lucky enough to have family members who fuel my mild addiction by giving me notebooks for birthdays and Christmas! The only problem is that I usually have several notebooks on the go at once…

    May 4, 2019September 22, 2023 Blog

Year of Bunting Challenge 4: Bunting With Flowers I have a hard time deciding which is my favourite season, do you? I like the autumn. Crispy leaves, golden light and woodsmoke. Winter’s nice when you get a clear crisp day. When it’s horrible out, you can light the…

    Free Crocheted Bunting Pattern

Free Crocheted Bunting Pattern Making crocheted bunting is a fun way to use up odds and ends of yarn from other projects. This pattern shows how to make traditional bunting triangles, worked in the round. The triangles are quite small, although obviously that depends on the weight of…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Creative invitations for February, on the theme of Creative invitations for February, on the theme of thresholds:

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

February is the doorway between winter and spring February is the doorway between winter and spring 💚🤍🌱❄️

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
