    Pressing Leaves into Clay

Choosing to respond to what is around us in the moment can sometimes take the form of almost wanting to preserve it. Spring is a glorious time, and now in late spring, with summer looming, everything is lush and green. People’s gardens are full of flowers, and I’ve…

What Does It Really Mean to Be a Creative Person?

A little while ago, I wrote a post which I called 10 Myths About Being a Creative Person. One person said that most of them were nonsense, and I entirely agree! A problem with the myths that I wrote about is that they were very prescriptive. They implied…

Before I get going, I have to confess that I have shamelessly stolen this idea from somebody else in internetland. She’s a lady called Michelle Tasker, and she makes the most beautiful designs for fabric and wallpaper that are inspired by nature. A little while ago, on Instagram,…

Like most self respecting grown ups, I am barely able to do anything without googling first. So some time ago, I googled what it meant to be a creative person.  Perhaps I should have anticipated that I wouldn’t like what I would find! There seemed to be very…

One of my favourite things to do at the moment is to make colours schemes from photos that I’ve then while I’ve been out. Where I live is beautiful. And although there is a lot to be said for just enjoying what is there in front of us,…

    Thoughts on Becoming Invisible

Until recently, I’d never given much thought to the idea that as we age, we start to become invisible, mainly because it didn’t affect me. But more recently, I’ve started to notice it. I first became more aware of age related invisibility almost a year ago now, when…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
