How to Make a Crocheted Hot Water Bottle Cover

I often find that when the weather starts to get colder, I feel more inclined to woolly crafts. If it’s something larger, like a blanket, of course it has the added benefit of keeping my legs warm at the same time! But even smaller projects appeal as well….

Making leaf rubbings, like the paintings of leaves that I wrote about in the last post, is another easy, low risk way to respond in a creative way to the beautiful colours of autumn. Here in England, the leaves are still coming off the trees and we’re not…

I like to think of leaves as autumn’s equivalent of springtime blossom. Like the blossom, it’s only for a few short weeks. And if the weather is bad and it’s very windy, it can be even less. There’s often a real desire to hold onto the leaves and…

Now that October’s here, I’ve got plans for making autumn themed things. Here where I live, autumn isn’t quite as beautiful as it is in other parts of the world, but we still get some lovely colours. It just tends to be individual trees, rather than everywhere you…

There’s a song by the Saw Doctors (an Irish rock band who were big in the 90s so subsequently now are a bunch of old men!) that says about liking the seasons changing best of all. The song is here if you want to have a listen. Although…

I’m currently working on a project for my textiles degree where I need to dye small amounts of fabric and roving with natural dyes. I have tried dyeing with plant material before with limited success, and it was the right time to give it another go! Yet more…

Friday weirdness fix 🤪😂 Things have been a Friday weirdness fix 🤪😂

Things have been a bit quiet recently because I have been finishing off another huge unit for my textiles degree.

As I could have predicted, I got hideously behind and needed about 2 months when I only had a week!

Anyway, I managed to pull it out of the bag and got enough done and sorted out to hand in, and I only had a couple of minor meltdowns 👍

I went out for a walk in the snow, and I was struc I went out for a walk in the snow, and I was struck by how the winter sunlight made the trees look coppery, and how lovely the copperiness was against the blue sky.

I do think noticing is enough. It's not always necessary to make or do something, especially if it feels more like proving that you saw it rather than wanting to.

There are some ideas cooking away in my head for things I might do, and having some ideas of colours already could be useful. So I made a colour scheme from the photo I took 🪾💙❄️

I went for two lovely walks today round my snowy village 💖❄️

I love the colours in the last photo. It's so easy to think of winter of nothing but grey and monochrome, but today was beautiful. I noticed coppery trees in the sunlight, against a pale blue sky 🪾❄️💖

Being out in nature always feels precious. It does Being out in nature always feels precious. It doesn't matter very much what time of year it is, or what the weather is doing.

Today I wanted to get outside while it was still light. Yesterday it was after 3pm and it was already gloomy!

Today is lovely and bright, even though everywhere is damp and muddy after all the rain.
