    Leaf Rubbings Revisited

November 9, 2025November 9, 2025 Creative Invitations, Living a Creative Life, Nature and Seasons

It goes without saying that beautiful leaves are one of the best things about autumn. In recent years, I’ve noticed that no two years are the same. This year, there has been a lot of yellow. In other years, there have been more reds, and in others more…

Why I Love Autumn For some of us, autumn is the time of year when we feel most creative. Although having just written that, I could say it about any time of year! Autumn is the year’s crowning glory. The growing season is pretty much over. Flowers have…

Apples are one of those things that really say September. I am finding that getting outside and paying attention to what is going on in nature helps me to be much more aware of cycles and seasons. Apple blossoms appear in the spring, then as summer rounds the…

    Printing With Leaves

June 14, 2025June 24, 2025 Blog, Creative Invitations, Nature and Seasons

At this time of year, in late spring and early summer before the summer solstice, everything is so beautifully green. The leaves are lovely in the autumn, and earlier in the spring there is blossom, but this time of year is wonderful too. As I’ve said before, it’s…

How to Make Skeleton Leaves Using Embroidery and Water Soluble Fabric

May 11, 2025June 24, 2025 Blog, Creative Invitations, Nature and Seasons

It’s a funny thing about nature that we are constantly reminded of cycles, yet as 21st century humans we seem to do everything we can to ignore them. It’s late spring here in my little patch of Norfolk, and it’s one of my favourite times of year. Everything…

Making leaf rubbings, like the paintings of leaves that I wrote about in the last post, is another easy, low risk way to respond in a creative way to the beautiful colours of autumn. Here in England, the leaves are still coming off the trees and we’re not…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

February is the doorway between winter and spring February is the doorway between winter and spring 💚🤍🌱❄️

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
