    An Apron Tutorial

    July 5, 2014March 23, 2016 Living a Creative Life

The observant among you may have noticed from my photography that my house is a bit of a tip. I’m not really one for the housework and there are six messy people living in my house. However, being neither a student nor a slob, I don’t especially want…

A Spring Green Wrap Dress Without a Pattern

A few weeks ago I decided to make myself a dress in bright spring green. Winter was definitely over and I was bored with my wintery things. Last time I made a wrap dress I used a pattern. Unfortunately, despite buying what I thought was the right size,…

Boys 1 and 2 have been mithering for ages to have a go on my sewing machine. I’d thought that having all boys and no girls meant that I would never be able to sew with my children, but my boys have proved me wrong! Anyway, a few…

    Swirly Circle Skirt

    May 12, 2013March 23, 2016 Living a Creative Life

A few weeks ago the parents of some friends of the boys had a ceilidh to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary and, happily, I had nothing to wear, so it was the perfect opportunity to make something! I needed to be able to feed the baby and I…

    Maternity Clothes

    July 26, 2012March 23, 2016 Living a Creative Life

I haven’t posted anything for a long time because I have had awful morning sickness and I’ve not felt up to making anything. People who smugly declare that “pregnancy is not an illness!!” need a poke in the eye. Okay, it’s not an illness, but it can make…

Whenever the boys and I are out, people always remark on the dinosaur hats and are almost always stunned when I tell them that I made them myself. 🙂 Yet they are suprisingly easy to make. Although there are people out there who are very skilled at designing…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
