Giving New Life to Old Tea Towels

When we had our kitchen redone a few years ago, one of the first things I did was make some new tea towels. Making new tea towels is an easy thing to do. You can just cut rectangles from pretty cotton fabric and hem them, then decorate them…

I had the horrible realisation the other day that summer is almost over. It doesn’t feel like we’ve had much of a summer in the UK. There were some nice days in May, then it was cold for ages! But even though the weather is nice now, there’s…

In the 1st post in this series, I talked about hierophany, the idea of markers in the landscape holding significance for both individuals and the local community, and what that might mean for us as creative people. In the second post, I wrote a little bit about using…

Even as we get older, it's very difficult to shake Even as we get older, it's very difficult to shake off the shiny shoes and new pencil case feeling that September brings.

In some ways, it feels more like a new year than January does! But I don't think we need to rely on other people telling us whether or not it is a new year. We can start a new year whenever we like!

One way to start afresh is to take a moment, step outside and notice what is there. Signs of autumn are appearing where I live, even though it still feels like summer.

Taking a little bit of time to slow down and really see can help us to be there in the present, instead of endlessly rushing from one thing to the next and before we know it, it's Christmas again.

This is why I created the Wild Blossom Companion. It's designed to encourage you to slow down a bit and notice, and see how you might use those in things you make. There's no need to completely change your life. That's not what it is. It's also not a toilet roll long ticky list. It's a way to honour the quieter, slower rhythms of a creative life.

I have a free edition available on my website if you like the idea of it and you'd like to try it without any commitment. It's called A Gentle Beginning and the link is on my bio.

What does late summer feel like to you? I find i What does late summer feel like to you?

I find it a weird time of year. In some ways it feels like summer still. The weather is still warm and will hopefully be a while before we're back into winter coats again. But the light has changed, the hedgerows are full of berries, the early mornings are colder and the nights are drawing in.

It feels almost sad, but not really because autumn is lovely! πŸπŸ‚

I've written a post about it on Wild Blossom Life. The link is in my bio if you want to read it πŸ’–

I would not feel better if I had done the things I should have done instead of the things I wanted to do.

🌸 Blackberries that are starting to look ripe, although they might still be a bit zingy for most people's tastes!

🌸 Fields full of wild flowers

🌸 Lots of sunshine!

🌸 Some of the wheat is nearly ready for harvesting.

🌸 Shady lanes are blissfully cool

🌸 The wild and jungly buddleia in my garden is covered in butterflies

If you like the idea of slowing down a bit and noticing the seasons changing, along with some ideas for gentle, open ended creative things you can do that reflect the seasons, you might be interested in the Wild Blossom Companion. It's a themed, monthly guide for creative people and is available as a subscription or as standalone months. There are links in bio, or DM me if you want to as anything. πŸ’–πŸŒžπŸŒΏ
