This post about drafting a skirt pattern contains affiliate links. So the Great British Sewing Bee is over for another year, and while there are things they made on the programme that I probably wouldn’t make, I feel inspired to make a Spanish style skirt like the dress…

One of the things we were going to do in Japan, as well as admire the cherry blossom, look at Mount Fuji from several different angles and visit the snow monkeys at the hot springs, was to go clothes shopping for souvenirs. I’m not one for shopping very…

It’s no secret that I love circle skirts! They suit all body shapes, they’re easy to make, and although I mentioned patterns in the title, I never use a pattern to make one! When I was having a tidy up the other weekend, I found some fabric I’d…

Needle cases might be seen as a little bit old fashioned, but I like them. I’m the worst person in the world for losing needles, so having somewhere pretty to put them might stop me from losing so many! This DIY embroidered needle case will eventually end up…

One of the things that I’ve had on a Pinterest board for a long time is this. It’s a fusion quilt, which basically means that you make quilt squares then crochet them together, so it fuses sewing with crochet. Every time this quilt pops up again, or when…

These are the days I live now. Everything is green These are the days I live now. Everything is green. There are flowers in the hedgerows and verges, elder and buttercups and long grass. Things that were stark in winter are now cushioned by all the green.

Not a project that can be done in an afternoon! It's taken about a week just to make a tiny bit and could probably have left them for longer.

I love how nettle like the yarn is. It's quite soft and smells of plants.

It's ridiculously hot but at least it's cooler in It's ridiculously hot but at least it's cooler in the woods 🌳🌿

Apparently it's not just because it's shady. It's also because trees do a thing called evapotranspiration which means they release moisture into the air. So it's basically nature's air conditioning 🌿🌞💖

So if you are too hot and you are able to, find yourself a wood. Or even a clump of trees will do.

If you like the idea of having something to do while you are there, I have written a new guide, called What to do in the Woods in Summer: A Guide for Creative People. It's quite a lot like the Wild Blossom Companion, there's a little bit to read, some forest bathing style things to do, some gentle, open ended creative things to do while you are there, and some more for when you get home if you want to stretch it out a bit more. The link is in my bio.
