Thoughts on Christmas Crafts and the Colour Red

We’re now into December, and I’m not doing Christmas crafts. That sounds really grumpy, and anti- Christmas! I actually don’t have a problem with people doing Christmas crafts. It’s just that I have made the decision that I won’t, other than the Advent candle, which is already done,…

Thoughts on Feeling That We Are Doing Badly

A little while ago, I was reading an email newsletter that mentioned a tv programme called Alone. I’ve never seen Alone, but from the sound of things, it has a similar format to the Great British Bake Off. A group of people are deposited in the wilderness with…

There’s a song by the Saw Doctors (an Irish rock band who were big in the 90s so subsequently now are a bunch of old men!) that says about liking the seasons changing best of all. The song is here if you want to have a listen. Although…

September can feel like an in between kind of month. In early September, it’s usually like summer still. The new school term often seems to coincide with a heat wave, which is especially annoying if the weather during the summer holidays wasn’t very good! But once the schools…

Sometimes there are things that stand in the way of our dreams. We might feel that we don’t have enough time, or space, or stuff, or money to do all the things we want to do. More time could mean getting everything done, having time for hobbies, dreams…

A little while ago, I was listening to a podcast, and in it, somebody said that human beings are designed to live according to the seasons, but modern life makes it impossible. I’ve talked before about humans and cycles, particularly in relation to the feeling that many of…

I never get tired of seeing fields full of daffodils.

Blossom spam! So far March has been a lot less we Blossom spam!

So far March has been a lot less wet than February, and there has been plenty of sunshine and some almost warm days.

In the past, when lionish weather has come back, I've seen it as nature trying to trick us. It seems like spring, and then it is winter again. Maybe summer is on its way, then no, we've regressed back to winter.

Now I don't see it like that. Sunny days are a treat, and a promise of what is to come ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’–

You know that feeling when you feel inspired by na You know that feeling when you feel inspired by nature and the changing seasons, and you want to do something or make something but you don't know what?

Creative invitations are open ended ideas that invite noticing and creative exploration. There is no expectation to produce something perfect, done in a certain way or even finished. The process matters as much as the end result, and it's fine to try them, ignore them, abandon them, or take them further.

Here are some creative invitations for March:

๐ŸŒผ Take inspiration from the daffodils' frilly trumpets and make something frilly. An easy way to do this is to add too many stitches when crocheting or knitting. Another is to deliberately pull at a hem while sewing it.

๐ŸŒผ Spot yellow things. Obviously daffodils are yellow, but you might spot other yellow things, natural and human made.

๐ŸŒผ Step outside at sunset and notice the colours in the sky. Before the clocks change, where I live sunset is at about 6.30, then afterwards an hour later. There are sometimes lovely sunsets in March.

๐ŸŒผ Stitch the weather. You could add some applique as well if you wanted to. Sometimes there are all four seasons in March!

I like to have a new project in early spring ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฑ O I like to have a new project in early spring ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฑ

Often it's the colours that I find most inspiring. After winter, the blossom is a change. And even though the lichen was already there, noticing the blossom means noticing the lichen as well.

One creative invitation for February was to start something with no intention of finishing it, so that is what I am doing.
