    The Best Things About Winter

I know this might make me odd, but I like winter. I don’t mind the cold. That’s what warm coats and boots and gloves are for! Summer’s fine, but I don’t like being too hot. Given a choice, I prefer the colder months. Having said that, I live…

A Simple Dress Without a Pattern

About 2 years ago I bought some green jersey to make a dress and last week I finally got round to making it. I’d decided not to bother with a pattern as I was planning on making something very simple and I already had an idea  in my…

Recently we (and by “we” I mean Husband) redecorated the living room. It was a desperately overdue job, the most noticeable thing about the walls was the evidence of Boy 2’s artistic toddler phase and spaghetti bolognaise. Part of the redecoration included new sofas (there’s now enough seating for…

Another week, another mug cosy! This time it’s a crocheted mug cosy, featuring a basket weave pattern. It’s made by starting of with a circle of chains, but switches to rows to accommodate the handle of the mug. Please be aware that I have used British crocheting terms! I…

Last week it felt like it had been such a long time since I’d sewn anything I was desperate to dust of my sewing machine and make something. I had some smaller pieces of fabric left over from other  projects and as I rarely seem to finish a…

How to Make a Wrap Skirt

    October 31, 2014March 23, 2016 Living a Creative Life

Despite it having been quite warm the last couple of days, it is definitely time to shove the summer outfits to the back of the wardrobe and dig out the winter clobber. Unfortunately I’ve got rid of some stuff that didn’t fit, had holes in and whatever, so…

February is not really one thing or the other, and February is not really one thing or the other, and both at the same time. There are signs of spring everywhere. Early blossom is appearing and the hedgerows are waking up. The other day, I saw buds on a magnolia tree in somebody's garden, green and fuzzy and huge.

When I took these photos, it had snowed earlier in the day. Signs of spring among reminders that it is still winter.

We forget that we are part of nature. We have cycles and seasons. If February has anything to say to us, it is that it is fine to be several things at once, or not quite one or the other. Everything will work itself out in its own time. 🌸💮🌱❄️

Spot thresholds and make a written or mental list

Make something woven to symbolise February as a gate between winter and spring

Notice things that feel undecided or in between, both objects and impressions. You might like to explore them in a collage

Begin something with no intention of finishing it

February is the doorway between winter and spring February is the doorway between winter and spring 💚🤍🌱❄️

The days stay light a little bit longer. Twigs are tipped with buds, and the green swords if daffodils are cutting through the cold ground. Even when it is cold, there is sometimes a hint of spring in the air, and the promise of green things waiting.
