A Christmassy project I have been working on recently is some Christmas cutlery pockets. The problem with being a crafty person is that you often end up hoarding craft supplies. In an effort to prevent the situation from becoming completely out of hand, I try to only buy…

How to Sew Felt Birds My favourite Christmas decorating style is Scandinavian, and after a trip to Norway last year, I love it even more! A couple of years ago I made some Scandi style felt birds as Christmas decorations. They’re the kind of thing that you can…

12 Things I’ve Learnt About Selling on Etsy In September 2010, I was in Sainsbury’s in King’s Lynn when a magazine caught my eye. It was the magazine Craftseller. On a whim I bought it, and although this is a cliche, it changed my life! I’ve always enjoyed making…

Sewing To Hide an Eyesore You’ve probably seen that meme that says something like, “A clean house is a sign of a broken sewing machine”. My house is usually a bit of a mess, and my sewing machine works just fine, so perhaps there’s some truth in this!…

Easy To Sew Pumpkins Tutorial I’ve gone a little bit pumpkin mad this autumn. Having returned from a trip to New England recently, I can see why pumpkins mean autumn for lots of people. I actually don’t like eating them very much (although pumpkin spice latte is delicious!), but…

DIY Tulle Skirt With a Hanky Hem I’d been considering making or buying a tulle skirt for a while. The thing that was putting me off was the idea that I am perhaps a little on the old side to go galumphing through the Norfolk countryside like an…

These are the days I live now. Everything is green These are the days I live now. Everything is green. There are flowers in the hedgerows and verges, elder and buttercups and long grass. Things that were stark in winter are now cushioned by all the green.

Not a project that can be done in an afternoon! It's taken about a week just to make a tiny bit and could probably have left them for longer.

I love how nettle like the yarn is. It's quite soft and smells of plants.

It's ridiculously hot but at least it's cooler in It's ridiculously hot but at least it's cooler in the woods 🌳🌿

Apparently it's not just because it's shady. It's also because trees do a thing called evapotranspiration which means they release moisture into the air. So it's basically nature's air conditioning 🌿🌞💖

So if you are too hot and you are able to, find yourself a wood. Or even a clump of trees will do.

If you like the idea of having something to do while you are there, I have written a new guide, called What to do in the Woods in Summer: A Guide for Creative People. It's quite a lot like the Wild Blossom Companion, there's a little bit to read, some forest bathing style things to do, some gentle, open ended creative things to do while you are there, and some more for when you get home if you want to stretch it out a bit more. The link is in my bio.
