Thoughts on Living a Creative Life

    February 19, 2023June 24, 2025 Blog, Thoughts and Reflections

What Does it Mean to Live a Creative Life? Over the last few months I’ve been having a think about what it means to live a creative life and how that might look. Not necessarily for people who are established artists and designers, but those of us who…

For many of us, including those of us who quite like winter, January can be a challenge. I like the rawness of New Year’s Day, the way it feels like the first page in a new diary, full of possibilities and with no mistakes in it, but after…

On Thursday 8th September, Her Majesty the Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral. She had been Queen for 70 years, making her the UK’s longest reigning monarch. Her reign was even longer than that of Queen Victoria’s, which lasted for 63 years. Lots of people have been affected…

I actually quite like winter, but I know a lot of people don’t. It’s easy to see why. When I worked outside of the home in a conventional job, one of the worst things was leaving home in the dark, then leaving work in the dark. For a…

Thanksgiving is this week, although being an English girl I don’t celebrate it. Our November holiday is Guy Fawkes, also known as Bonfire night, which involves setting off fireworks and eating toffee apples. When I was a little girl, it was usual for children to make a person…

    The Healing Power of Creativity

We are all makers, whether we believe it or not. Creativity is part of what makes us human, and it has been part of our humanness since the earliest times. Humans have told stories and used them as a way to preserve the truth of what they believed….

These are the days I live now. Everything is green These are the days I live now. Everything is green. There are flowers in the hedgerows and verges, elder and buttercups and long grass. Things that were stark in winter are now cushioned by all the green.

Not a project that can be done in an afternoon! It's taken about a week just to make a tiny bit and could probably have left them for longer.

I love how nettle like the yarn is. It's quite soft and smells of plants.

It's ridiculously hot but at least it's cooler in It's ridiculously hot but at least it's cooler in the woods 🌳🌿

Apparently it's not just because it's shady. It's also because trees do a thing called evapotranspiration which means they release moisture into the air. So it's basically nature's air conditioning 🌿🌞💖

So if you are too hot and you are able to, find yourself a wood. Or even a clump of trees will do.

If you like the idea of having something to do while you are there, I have written a new guide, called What to do in the Woods in Summer: A Guide for Creative People. It's quite a lot like the Wild Blossom Companion, there's a little bit to read, some forest bathing style things to do, some gentle, open ended creative things to do while you are there, and some more for when you get home if you want to stretch it out a bit more. The link is in my bio.
