According to something I was reading on the internet, cinnamon is officially the smell of Christmas. I associate lots of smells with Christmas. Not only cinnamon, but cloves, ginger and nutmeg. These were all ingredients in the Christmas cake and the Christmas puddings. Also pine, the smell of the…

Making a Christmas wreath to hang on the door is one of my favourite pre-Christmas tasks. This is actually only the second time I have made a Christmas wreath using a floral foam wreath. I used to bend a wire coat hanger into a circle and attach bits…

It must be nearly Christmas. How do I know? Apart from the date, obviously. I know because Boy 3 is bouncing off the ceiling. When he came out of school yesterday I thought his teachers must have given him coffee! The Advent Calender is up, the pockets are stuffed…

Dried citrus fruit is great for making Christmas decorations. There’s something wonderful about using natural materials for making stuff. As well as the end result looking lovely, the process is fun, they smell amazing and they don’t contribute to landfill. Providing they don’t get damp and warm (and…

Remember making butterfly pictures as a child? The Remember making butterfly pictures as a child? The ones I made the other week looked like flowers.

So I made them look more like flowers with a pen!

There's really no right or wrong way. Just draw what you can see in the shapes 💖🌸

After I made the colour schemes for April, I had a After I made the colour schemes for April, I had a look back at the ones I made for March. One of the March colour schemes was actually very similar to an April one.

It probably says quite a lot about which colours I like at the moment!

And it stands to reason that at a time of year when there is a lot of blossom, colour palettes are going to be similar. I don't think I could choose between them, it would be like choosing a favourite child! But I think it is interesting that the April one is definitely warmer, reflecting how spring changes from March to April in longer days and warmer weather.

If I think to, I might look for similar colours in May too, and make another colour scheme to compare with the others 🌸🌱🌿

Did you ever do butterfly paintings as a child? T Did you ever do butterfly paintings as a child?

The theme in April's Wild Blossom Companion is reflections. Sometimes our hands want to do something creative but we don't know what, and the Wild Blossom Companion has ideas of things to do within a theme.

I started off combining butterfly paintings with landscapes, and as I often find with anything literal I felt a bit anxious about whether what I was doing was any good. But that's kind of not the point! It's supposed to be playful exploration, not something that makes stress and anxiety worse! Plus the acrylic paint stuck on one of them and the paper tore.

So I gave that up and just blobbed paint onto the paper instead.

I think they look more like bunches of flowers then butterflies 💐what do you think?

And yes, I somehow managed to forget that phone needed to be the other way round! 🤦🤷🤪
